About Us

We are a family run independent retailer in Sidmouth, Devon.  We are more a cheesemongers than a Deli and we don't make sandwiches.  For a number of years visitors have been saying to us “Why isn't there a shop like yours near us?”.

Well, now we are just a few keystrokes away.

We moved premises and that has afforded us the opportunity to store the packaging needed to send cheese by courier.  We have also been collecting email addresses off of customers over the last eighteen months and telling them that we would be launching a site.

We've finally taken the plunge of investing in the building of a site and we think it's good.  We'd be happy to hear your thoughts on it.

We are well aware that, just as in the shop, the first sale is more or less guaranteed and what we are really selling is repeat business.

That is easier in the shop because we have a policy [except Christmas week and Folk Week] of letting people taste before they buy.

You can't really do this on an e-commerce site.

We do, however, expect the customers on the site to probably be a little more knowledgeable about what they want than the average member of the public walking down the street.  You wouldn't be on a specialist website otherwise.  That said, there are descriptions of the cheeses which we hope might encourage a little experimentation.

We won't be selling Edam or Cathedral City.  We are not being elitist but you can pick those up pre-packed at most corner convenience stores.  On the other hand, if you want a cheese that doesn't appear on our list please contact us and we'll see what we can do about getting it.  For instance, we don't normally stock Chaumes or Belton's Red Leicester, but we can get it.  If you don't want all of it the rest goes out in the shop.

We are selling our cheese on the website at the same price as it is in the shop.  You just pay postage and packing on top.  How much time would you swap for £8.50?
